After we have spent more than a week in Gironella, recovering from our illness, we realize we're on the doorstep of a famous landmark in this region of Spain. Montserrat is a spectacularly beautiful Benedictine monk mountain retreat about one hour from Barcelona by train. Not only is Montserrat Monastery of significant religious importance but the natural beauty surrounding the monastery is simply breathtaking.
