We're in the North of Mauritius for a couple of days after a week of kiting at Le Morne and in the video below we join JustDiving for a double-tank scuba dive in the Pereybere / Bain Boeuf area. We spotted some huge turtles and the usual assortment of tropical fish. It was good fun and the weather played along for a change!
Scuba diving is a great activity to partake in all over the world. You have the opportunity to meet other travellers and locals alike and in addition, you will be introduced to a completely new underwater world. We started our scuba diving back in 2008 in Thailand where we did the PADI Open Water course. During 2011 we did the PADI Advanced Open Water course Peri-Peri Divers in Tofu, Mozambique, which changed the game completely as we were then able to dive much deeper than before and since then has dived in locations all over the world.
In Asia, scuba diving is generally a LOT more affordable than in Europe or North America and in some places like the north of Bali where you can dive directly from the shore, it can be downright cheap! Here's a short video of a shore-dive we did at sunrise in Tulamben, Bali to see the Giant Bumphead Parrotfish.
The north of Mauritius proved to be an excellent dive destination as the water is mildly warm and crystal clear. The Justdivng crew was professional and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We managed to dive two different sites north of Péreybère:
Turtles Rocks which had long coral spots on a sandy bottom where we saw some turtles, loads of leafy fish and even some rays. The dive maxed out at 18m and our dive time was around 45 minutes.
Merville Patches has large coral spots broken by the sand and we saw scorpionfish, stonefish and a variety of moray eels. The dive spot wasn't terribly exciting but ff you looked closely there was plenty of Nudibranchs - we also found some angry Clownfish - fiercely defending their territory. These guys are always fun to watch! The dive maxed out at 15m and dive time was around 50 minutes.
