BEST TIME TO VISIT THE GILIS
The Gili's climate is characterized by two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season.
THE DRY SEASON IN THE GILI'S
The dry season, spanning from May to October, is widely regarded as the optimal time to visit Lombok. During these months, the island basks in the glory of sunny days and a relatively cooler atmosphere, especially from July to August, making it perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking, surfing, and beach-hopping.
Water Visibility: Excellent, which is perfect for diving and snorkeling as visibility underwater is at its peak.
Events: The islands may have local events and festivals that you can enjoy.
SHOULDER SEASONS IN THE GILI'S
However, if solitude is what you seek, consider visiting during the shoulder months of April or May, just before the peak season kicks in, or in September and November, right after the high season winds down. These periods offer a sweet spot with fewer tourists and still favourable weather conditions for exploring the island's natural wonders.
THE WET SEASON IN THE GILI'S
On the flip side, the wet season, which lasts from November to March, transforms the islands into a lush, green landscape. While rain showers are more frequent, they are often short-lived and can provide a refreshing respite from the heat.
Water Conditions: Visibility for diving and snorkelling may be reduced due to increased sediment in the water.
Crowds: Fewer tourists, which can mean more affordable accommodation and a quieter atmosphere.
SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS
Kitesurfing: The best time for kitesurfing is during the dry season, particularly from May to September, when the winds are most consistent.
Marine Life: Divers might find that certain marine species are more active or visible during specific times of the year, so it's worth checking local dive centre recommendations if you have specific underwater interests.
Overall, visiting the Gili Islands during the dry season ensures the best weather conditions and the fullest experience of all the natural beauty and activities the islands have to offer.
BEST TIME FOR:
The Gili Islands, a stunning archipelago near Lombok, are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Indonesia. The best time to visit these islands is during the dry season from April to September, when the weather is ideal for beach activities and outdoor adventures.
All three islands boast crystal-clear waters and white sandy shores, making them a beach lover's paradise.

The cost of traveling to the Gilis can vary widely based on factors such as the time of year, the type of accommodations, dining choices, activities, and personal spending habits.
Traveling to the Gili Islands can be a relatively affordable experience, especially when compared to other island destinations. The cost of getting to the Gili Islands from Bali involves a fast boat ride, which is typically priced around $100 USD for a return ticket. Once there, the islands offer a range of activities and accommodations that can fit various budgets. For instance, scuba diving is a popular activity, with an Open Water certification costing approximately 5,900,000 IDR (360 USD), and single tank dives around 540,000 IDR (33 USD). Accommodation options vary, with the possibility of enjoying a surf camp experience for about 5,000,000 IDR (305 USD) for a six-day stay, which includes several amenities.
When comparing the Gili Islands to other similar destinations, it's noted that while they may not be as tranquil and inexpensive as they once were, they still present a quieter and potentially more affordable alternative to places like Bali. In Bali, you might find a wider range of dining and recreational activities, but you'll also encounter significant transport costs, which are virtually non-existent on the motor-free Gili Islands.
Each of the three main Gili Islands—Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air—offers a unique experience, from vibrant nightlife to serene beaches, catering to different preferences and budgets. Therefore, the overall cost will largely depend on the type of activities and level of luxury you're seeking during your stay.
